Who can open a Hawai'i ABLE account?

Any adult with a qualifying disability that developed before the age of 46 and resides in the state of Hawai'i can open and manage a Hawai'i ABLE account. Hawai'i ABLE accounts were designed to be managed by the person with a disability.

If a beneficiary is under the age of 18 or unable to open an account on their own, they can choose to have someone else open and manage their account as an Authorized Legal Representative (also known as an ALR). Account managers can include: anyone selected by the beneficiary, a guardian, conservator, spouse, parent, sibling, grandparent, representative payee, or someone with power of attorney.
